Update on EUCAST warnings

Published at 2020.05.22

bioMérieux has published a response to the EUCAST warning on benzylpenicillin gradient tests for S. pneumoniae, in which they confirm that MICs are systematically lower for isolates with MICs close to the R breakpoint. The response is available on the EUCAST website (https://www.eucast.org/ast_of_bacteria/warnings/).

For piperacillin-tazobactam gradient tests (Etest and MIC Test Strip), the EUCAST warning has been removed for Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas (see https://www.eucast.org/ast_of_bacteria/warnings/), due to an improved correlation with reference MICs for these species. However, neither piperacillin-tazobactam Etest nor MIC Test Strip are validated for anaerobes or Haemophilus influenzae.
